When selecting the type of paving you want, first you should consider the base requirements of your paving will need. Typically, 50mm clay brick pavers and 40mm concrete pavers can be laid on crushed rock and sand. In some scenarios 40mm concrete pavers can also benefit form being laid on crushed rock and mortar. Whereas 10-20mm natural stone/outdoor tiles should always be laid on a concrete slab to reduce movement and prevent cracking.
Protecting your pavers
It is also recommended to seal your paving with a good quality penetrating sealer to ensure maximum lifespan. Sealing your pavers can prolong the effects of fading in concrete, and prevents the absorbtion of stains for both concrete and natural stone paving.
That's why sealing your pavers shortly after they have been laid is a worthy long-term investment!
